cglfishing

Lake Wylie is starting to heat up! Literally! This cold front might cool things off some, but the catfish are entering the pre-spawn feeding period. Many of the blues I have been seeing are FAT! They are feeding heavily in anticipation of the spawn (let's not think about THAT yet...). They seem to prefer cut white perch over anything else right now. I haven't seen any flatheads yet, but I don't see them very often at Ebenezer this early in the year.

The white perch are feeding heavily and moving into shallower water. Some large perch are being pulled off the bottom with a piece of a nightcrawler on a small Aberdeen hook. I am sure parking over a school and dropping sabiki rigs would produce quickly.

I have heard reports of bass moving shallow to get on beds. I haven't targeted them on Lake Wylie yet to confirm but intend to try with the next warm-up.

The next few weeks should be great fishing for most species! As the weather warms, we will have a couple of weeks of heavy feeding from the cats until the spawn kicks in. Bass will also be preparing for the spawn and moving shallower and shallower.
